For a happier and more creative home, take the 21-day "Happy Family" challenge.
Want to help your kids become happier, more successful, and more creative? Here's a FREE way to start forming habits that lead to better lives for our children and ourselves.
Day 1
Write down three places or things for which you are grateful.
Day 2
Write down the names of two people for whom you are grateful.
Day 3
Write down a memory for which you are grateful. If you want to learn more about the importance of gratitude, please sign up for my email list. As a thank-you gift, you can download the "Gratitude" chapter from my book for free.
Day 4
Check out kiva.org. If it fits your budget, make a micro-loan.
Day 5
Reach out to a friend or family member you haven't spoken to in awhile. Send a message via social media, text, a phone call, or a hand-written note.
Day 6
Write down two more places or things for which you are grateful.
Day 7
Spend some quiet time in prayer or meditation. This would be a good moment to say "thank you" for the blessings in your life.
Day 8
Send a message of kindness and/or encouragement to a good friend.
Day 9
Think about a time when someone was kind to you. Give yourself a quiet space to reflect on this happy memory.
Day 10
Make an acrostic poem from the letters in your name that consists of people, places, or things for which you are grateful. Example:
Mom
Ice cream
Krispy Kreme doughnuts
Exercise
Day 11
Create and send a homemade card to Grandma, Grandpa, or another special person in your family's life.
Day 12
Challenge yourself to learn something new. Do you know the locations of the countries of Europe? If not, start learning them here!
Day 13
Write a funny song about your pet. Use the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" or another familiar song.
Day 14
Spend some time focusing on your breathing. Close your eyes. As you inhale, count to three. As you exhale, count to five. It might help to listen to peaceful music while you do this.
Day 15
Find something to celebrate about. Are you making progress on learning something new? That's a good enough reason to throw a party!
Day 16
Did you know that history can make us more grateful? Check this out.
Day 17
Combine these five words to form a short story:
Miami
Santa
Banana
Wagon
Anteater
If your story is hilarious and unrealistic, that's just fine!
Day 18
Give yourself some time to daydream today. Let your imagination roam.
Day 19
Write down three more people, places, memories, and things for which you're grateful.
Day 20
Compose another silly song that has a famous tune. Maybe you could use "Happy Birthday" and write about your family vehicle. If you want to practice empathy, write it from your car's perspective!
Day 21
Bake cookies for a neighbor. When you deliver them, explain that you just finished the "Happy Family" challenge! Maybe your neighbor will enjoy this experience as well.
